The legacy of Post Apartheid still lives in the mind and actions of many South Africans

It's been 21 years since apartheid was officially erased in South Africa but still it's teachings and ideologies are still very much enbodied expressed and felt by millions of South Africans.

Last week a member of the Democratic Alliance party (DA) took to social media and labeled all black people as monkeys because according to her they over crowded a beach in kwazulu Natal and did not clean it after using it. Honestly this made me laugh because if Ms. Penny Sparrow could ever have an opportunity to visit cameroon and make a stop at the beach in Limbe I guess she will be returning to South Africa with a heart attack. "Hahaha"
And to amplifier the drama on racism Gareth Cliff who has been a judge on the SA idole for more than five years said "people need to understand freedom of speech" meaning Ms. Penny Sparrow had all rights in the world to call anyone names. well...In that case I am busy thinking of what name to call you.
To put some icing on the cake the home affairs minister on ENCA some weeks ago said "they is unemployment in South Africa but we do not see us sending our citizens out of the country or to different countries to look for jobs". Firstly with my understanding about the universal declaration of human rights everyone regardless of who you are or where you are you have the right to move freely in the world. Secondly I do not think any country will ever forcefully ask it's citizen to immigrate into another country in search for jobs. And as we all know South Africans do not like traveling so the rest of the world should not be made accountable for that. Lastly the world has become a global village Oga Minister of Home Affairs.
All these shows much South Africa still has to grow as a nation and as individuals. The mindset of its people has to change. Equality is everyone's fundamental right and globalization is here to stay.

Fees must fall

My mother use to tell me 'if you think education is expensive try illiteracy' and I will laugh so hard because by then I never really knew the value and importance of education.  I was just 10 at the time. I came to south African in 2011 and by then my fess were  R19000 at the University of the western cape that but now with the yearly increasement I pay 27000 for a Bc in Arts with no improvement of the quality in education of infrastructure.
Education should be made a necessity not a priority.  I wonder how many people can really afford tertiary education now talk less of when an increase of 10% which Mr. Zuma and his ministers are proposing. 

The irony about all these is that the south African Government is made up of more than 80% of black ministers who understands the daily struggle of an under privileged black south African but still they propose an increase of 10% on tuition. 
Fess Must Fall is not just a slogan on socal media but a curse which should be attend. 

She only sees opportunities not limitations.

Queen Okafor is young lady from Nigeria a native of Nnobi in Idemeili South Local Government Area, Anambra State. Some call her the most breded woman in Nigeria some consider her a witch while to other seeing for the first time evokes mixed feelings about her gender and sexuality but the bottom line is that she's simply a woman a different kind of woman.

I was watching TV the other day when  this lady with some much energy and life was invited as the special of 'moments' on Ebony Life TV. What grab my attention was the manner with which she spoke and her facial expressions. Always smiling regardless of the way people see her a day the facial hair. She spoke about her childhood the challenges which she faced and some which she is still facing.  But vision on life was absolutely amazing. That vibrate energy in her voice captured the entire place and could be felt by everyone present during the 45 minutes interview. Her attitude towards life is fill  with hope and optimism. She never saw her physical condition as a limitation but rather as a blessing.
She has learnt to use it to her advantage by touching life positively and even planned on having her own TV or Radio Show someday. She see herself as one special human being all the facial hair which she has as a woman which distinguishes her from every other woman was a special gift from God and she in turns to use that in charging lives.
This got me pondering on my life how we always turn to use our immediate situation or physical conditions in constructing our future. Our destinies are in our hands what we decide to make of it sorely depends on us. As the presenters of Moments will always say 'once you can think it you can do it'. She thought about being interviewed on a TV show someday and she made it now she's thinking about having her own TV show who says she can't have that.

Power Struggle : AU and ICC

South Africa defy it's own constitutional law when it allowed the Sudanise president Omar Al-Bashir to leave the country while the was a court pending his arrest on Monday the 15th of May. This has spark so much controversies within and country out of the country on the authenticity of the role of law in South Africa and also whether South Africa minimise it's own polices and laws of the International Criminal Court the ICC.  President Omar Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crime against humanity in Sudan in 2009. President Omar Al-Bashir came to South Africa on the 6th of June to attend the Africa Union Submit hosted by South Africa and according to reports from the South African Government he was granted immunity just like all the other heads of state who were present during the submit.

But on Saturday the 13th the Johannesburg High Court place a court order for his arrest launched by the ICC pending judgement on Monday the 15th but as fun as it might sound President Omar Al-Bashir left the country on Monday before the j'burg High Court could give it final judgement which was an order for his arrest.

The key point here are president Al-Bashir defy South Africa law by leaving even though he knew he was not supposed to till after the Johannesburg passed it's judgement.  Some people argue that president Al-Bashir left South Africa on grands of the immunity  which he got just like all the other presidents who were present during the submit. The most controversial head of state in Africa President Robert Mugabe said in an interview that President Zuma promised President Al that he will not be arrested through out his stay in South Africa.

This therefore means that President Zuma knew all the complexities which will surround president Al-Bashir's stay and decided still pursuit it regardless of its out come by defying the laws of his own country and that of the international Criminal Court.
Some say Africa its high time Africa learn to stand on his own not by some international institutions controlled by post colonial governments who impose their laws on African states. All we have left to do is to see how the story unfolds firstly by South Africa given reasons why it allowed president Al to the country regardless of a court order pending his arrest and what the ICC is going to say or do towards South Africa.

FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP 2015: The Usual Match Bonus Crisis

It is no news for any Cameroonian sporting delegation to be denied of their deserving benefits by either the government or some top ranking government official. Its like a tradition and even in the just ended 2014 world cup in Brazil same thing happened with the lions and today it is the turn of their female compatriot. All I want to know is who allocate theses bonus and who is appointed to hand them to those players. I believe the ministry of sport and FECAFOOT has workers who earn monthly salaries and if that salary is tempted with even just once a month it causes turbulence within the ministry so why can’t they not act responsibly when comes to people who go to represent out nation. It’s not like the money is been taking off their salary. A report by "Le Jour" News paper back home reported that the players have been on strike since the 26^th of May and have promised to boycott their first match against Ecuador if their bonus is not being paid. But on Thursdays they called of their strike actions as they have been to receive 15million frs CFA which is half of what they were asking before their match on Monday.

It is also important to note that the kick off of the female football world cup will take place on Saturday the 6^th In Canada and also for this years’ tournament the has been an increase in the number of teams from 16 to 24 and consequently an increase in the number of matches from 24 to 32 matches.

Even though have high hopes with my national team be it the male or female squad, I am still patiently waiting for that special day when we will bring the trophy back home. Type of dreams Cameroonians always have. 

Teenage Pregnancy: Mother's Excuse On Fighting Poverty

Last week Saturday we had a discussion in one of our lectures about teenage pregnancy on some of the reasons behind it and we try to use South Africa as our case study or point of interest. What got my attention was what one of my colleagues said as one of the primary causes of teenage pregnancy in South Africa today POVERTY. It so surprising and humiliating that a parent will send their teenage daughter to go get pregnant so they can receive R400 monthly grant from the government. I do believe the South African Government located social grants on teenage girls who get pregnant because firstly as a government they need to provide for the social well being of its citizens and also gives the girl a second chance in life.

Approximately 30% of teenagers in South Africa have ever been pregnant a huge majority of it is unplanned and the ages lies between 13-19 years. Yes we all know the main reason for teenage pregnancy is poverty and lack of education. In the Eastern Cape alone 65 percent of girls between the ages from 13 to 19 already have about three kids of their own and are not even married.  “The whole family! The mother is giving birth, the daughters also some of the daughters even infected HIV, kids having kids. They are some families with 8 kids and they surly rely on the government grant of R400 per month for each child for the well being of the family. Some women carry the notion of more children more grants and so even force their girl-child to go get pregnant so they could get more money from the government. This is so disgusting and to extend can be seen as child abuse.  

I do not think those mothers know the consequences of their actions because they turned to base their mind surly on the grants which they are going to get for each child. Some people have argued that the grants which those teenage mothers get from the government is what is encourages them to get pregnant at a very tender age of 13.  But the government has denied that its policy has led to unwanted pregnancies. A study in 2006 by the country’s Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) determined that since the child support grant was enacted in 1998, only 20 percent of teen mothers received the payment, since most could not produce identity documents to quality for the money. But those studies were made in 2006 and 9 solid years has passed might be it needs to be revised. I do believe the only question which we got on our minds now is "should the Government stop financial grant for teenage mothers"? I will leave that you readers to answer that.
