educated but still an illiterate

I do not remember seeing daddy in at home today so who else is watching this boring News channels? This is a 28 years graduate asking me that. I can't say I was not disappointed or shocked by her question. She is just one of many who went to school just to have a certificate and a job not to enrich themselves with wisdom and common sense. I never knew getting to know about what's happening in the world in one which we live in as become a such a big deal or something for the old.

I know thereading culture is not greatly practised by us black people like reading news papers and novels but I thought television since it is a very captivating kind of media will encourage young people more especially black people to watch educative programs and get to know more about the world.
I was not surprised when she told me her favourite channel is Africa Magic. .'lmao' and can not remember the day she ever took the remote and turned in to a news channel. I asked her where does she normally get her news and other information from and she had this very big smile on her face while saying it..."from people like you who watch the news and even from the streets".
This guy also told me watching news channels make him feel old and whenever he sees me watching it he feels like I am jumping the youthful stage in my life. I wonder where people get such ideas and mentality from.

 Sometimes we think illiterate people are just the ones who did not see the see the four walls of a classroom but even some educated people can still be considered as illiterate. Illiteracy is when you have no background knowledge about something. You can be a computer illiterate. We did not go to school just to know about our field but also to have a general knowledge about life and the world in which we live in. The media is not just there for entertainment but also to inform and educate. Be smart and watch wisely.

Happy international mother's day

Four years ago I left my home country Cameroon to south Africa to further my educa tion. I was sent on this life time adventure by three phenomenal women. Emma Nayongo Effange my mother Pauline Eposi Watany my grandmother and Jane Effange my aunty who is off blessed memory. I was young and very naive had no family over there all I had and knew where the principles of living a virtuous life implanted in me by them. All they wanted was for to have the best in life first by getting enrolled into a university and secondly having a great future without any limitations.

 I know as children especially as young as we always think we are, our mothers responsibilities is indisputable as we mark the annual the international mother's day today the 10th of may. I have tried to do a just a little flash back on some of those qualities which I see as special and unique to all mothers.

Every human being even though some are born premature stays in the mothers womb..For 9 months meaning she gave u shelter and protection you even before you the light of day for 9 months and immediately you came into this world her first priority was to give you the best life could offer with her own means. She made sure you were protected from any harm humanly or naturally. Some even gave up their dreams just because they want to provide the best for their family.  Sometimes I get to wonder how single mothers manage to do all alone and a good example is my mother and grandmother both single mothers but they did all they could in providing for their children and I do believe all we could give back to them is honour and appreciation because we can never pay them back for all what they have done for us

If the international community could come together and set a day for us to celebrate and appreciate them is not just because they are female but because they are pure necessity and irreplaceable

Gender based in SA: Have south African men become husbands or murderers?

Jayde Panayiotou is the latest case of gender violence in South Africa. The Port Elizabeth based teacher was kidnapped, robbed an d killed  by her husbandjust outside her home on Tuesday April 21st.  This just brings to light the number of women who are being violated on a daily base by their husbands or partners in the country. In 2013 according to a study published in August by professor Rachel Jewkes of the South Africa medical Research Council a woman is killed by an intimate partner every eight hours in South Africa and only about 20 per cent of the killers are identified.
In that same year a man was accused of chopping up and beheading his wife with a machete; police arrested a 29-year-old accused of raping a 2-year-old toddler fighting for her life in the hospital; and police are investigating the rape of a 100-year-old great-great grandmother. Police still are hunting for two of 15 men accused of gang raping a 23-year-old woman. Her ordeal lasted hours.

Oscar pistorius even though he was set free on grounds of self defence killed his girlfriend on valentine's day eve. Still in that same year the British Indian businessman was accused of arranging the murder of his wife on their honeymoon trip to south Africa. In polokwane a limpopo businessman was accused of staging a burglary after allegedly shooting dead his wife. The list can go on and on and on.

Have asked myself more than a thusand times.."why so much voilence against women"? Just as any othrr problem in south african apartheid is seen as the root cause of gender voilence in South Africa. Apartheid had a very huge negative effects on South African who use or see voilence as the best way in solving issues and expressing their feelings especially frustration and anger. Unemployment is also seen as primary caused for gender based voilence in SA considering the fact that about 24.9% of SA are women are  unemployment and 15-24% are illiterate who relay on their partners for financial supports. The partrichy nature of most of our African society view violence against women as a way of portraying their power authority and control as THE man in the house or relationship.

According to Gender Links' research, 77% percent of women in Limpopo province, 51% of women in Gauteng, 45% of women in the Western Cape and 36% of women in KwaZulu-Natal have experienced some form of violence (emotional, economic, physical or sexual) in their lifetime, both within and outside intimate relationships.

Although in South Africa 16 days of activism is being set aside to educate people about violence against women and it is never enough when rapist and those carry out such acts can be seen parading the streets freely while the victims and their families live in pain and lost. Men need to understand that women are not tools use to express their frustration powder and authority but humans who have equal rights like them and no sustainable development can ever be attained in a country without the input support and protection of women

a screen diva...happy birthday Genevieve

Woman envy her men adore her she has capture the heart of millions of people all over the world through her indisputable performance on screen through out her acting career.  I see her as a screen diva, an epitome of greatness in African cinema and i am very sure the late Maya Angelo will describe her as a 'Phenomenal Woman'.

Genevieve nnaji is a Nigerian actor born on the 3th of may 1979 in mbaise, Imo state in Nigeria. She grow up in Lagos where she attended the Methodist Girls College in Yaba Lagos and later  went to the university of Lagos.
Her career in the movie industry started at the age of 8 where she featured in the television soap opera 'Ripples'. At the age of 19 she was introduced into the then called Nigerian Movie Industry now called 'Nollywood' where she was given a role in the movie 'most wanted'. From there on it should be noted that it has been from one level of glory for her to the next for the talented actor.
She has featured in over 80 Nollywood movies considered to be one of the highest paid actors in Nollywood and even Oprah Winfrey could not be held back from screen's diva success by referring to her as the Julia Roberts of Africa.
She has received several awards and recognition through out Africa. In 2001 she won the Best Actress of the Year Award at the City People Award and the Best Actress in a leading Role in 2005 in the African Movie Academy Awards.

I have tried to understand why is Genevieve nnaji is so loved,adored admired by many. Most many girls in africa aspire to be like her men desire. I have watched almost all her movies needless to say I am one of her biggest fans. What makes her different from other Nollywood actors is not just her beauty but her display of professionalism.  She captures every character and makes it so real so us. This can be seen in some of her movies like 'formidable force, Sharon stone in Abuja and keeping faith just to name a few. She never gone nude just to play a role as a prostitute like what we seen now on Nollywood she respects not just her profession but herself and will always come out as the best. Happy birthday screen diva and as you will always 'stay focus to your dream hard work pays'.

professionalism, determination and hard work lead to Chelsea's premier league success.

Chelsea captured it's forth premier league title with three more matches to spare after beating crystal palace yesterday Sunday at Stamford Bridge by 1-0. It's soccer my friend..haters will always gonna hate but Mourinho and his boys deserved the title and they own it.
Where I come from (Cameroon) my people will say 'make we leave that bad belley' Chelsea deserve the league title this season.  They started their campaign with a four straight win and gave their rival man city 13 points cab with still 3 matches to go before the end of the season.

The blues efficiency focus and professionalism can be seen through it defence by conceiving just 27 goals  even though some critic like man city, crystal palace and arsenal  fans consider it as a  boring game the fact is...They just captured their forth premier league title after winning their first 60 years ago.

 Lead by their brilliant coach Jose Mourinho who is also know as the 'special one' not just in Stamford Bridge but in the football.  He has won 3 clubs titles with the club and his eight title in 12 years with porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.  His success comes from team work harf work at the club level unconditional support from players like John Terry and Didier Drogba who can also be considered as legends in the club without any doubt .
Apart from Chelsea players and manger the billionaire Roman Abramovich who is currently the owner of the club since 2003 can finally seat back and say 'it was a good deal after all' with his four  premier league titles to his name.

post xenophobic attacks

Last night I was talking with one of my friends from home (Cameroon) about the on going xenophobic attacks  in South Africa. She asked me a question which I could categorised as a very important question about the on going violence attack on foreigners here in SA and her question was..'will the attackers be punished and the victim compensated? I was silence for a some minutes because I haven't heard of any form of compensation from the SA Government.

But heard from media houses all over the country like Etv and SABC the government will help in repatriating those who want to go back to theirs countries and integrate those with valid papers back to their communities here in SA.
But I do believe damage to anyone's property whether your a foreigner or not wherr ever you find yourself is liable to  some form of compensation. I know the next question on people's minds will be...where those shops insured?

According to news24 the Nigerian federal government could be asking south African to pay more than R5 million in compensation but it was not mentioned whether it's in  rands or neira. The president of the Nigerian union in SA (NUSA) Ike Anyene said the compensation matter would be raised at the next meeting of the SA-Nigeria Binational Commission. It is very important to note that both countries have a great deal of economic and political ties.

 Apart from nigerians other victims like Emmanuel sithole who was brutally killed by four locals who are believe to be his neighbours was transported to his home country Mozambique on Friday.  He was the bread winner in his family like many others shop owners whose shops were looted.
Yes many arrest have been made but what happens to the victims especially those who wish to continue staying here in South Africa. Can Zuma and his ministers  see deeply into that. I have said my own.
