My mother use to tell me 'if you think education is expensive try illiteracy' and I will laugh so hard because by then I never really knew the value and importance of education.  I was just 10 at the time. I came to south African in 2011 and by then my fess were  R19000 at the University of the western cape that but now with the yearly increasement I pay 27000 for a Bc in Arts with no improvement of the quality in education of infrastructure.
Education should be made a necessity not a priority.  I wonder how many people can really afford tertiary education now talk less of when an increase of 10% which Mr. Zuma and his ministers are proposing. 

The irony about all these is that the south African Government is made up of more than 80% of black ministers who understands the daily struggle of an under privileged black south African but still they propose an increase of 10% on tuition. 
Fess Must Fall is not just a slogan on socal media but a curse which should be attend. 

She only sees opportunities not limitations.

Queen Okafor is young lady from Nigeria a native of Nnobi in Idemeili South Local Government Area, Anambra State. Some call her the most breded woman in Nigeria some consider her a witch while to other seeing for the first time evokes mixed feelings about her gender and sexuality but the bottom line is that she's simply a woman a different kind of woman.

I was watching TV the other day when  this lady with some much energy and life was invited as the special of 'moments' on Ebony Life TV. What grab my attention was the manner with which she spoke and her facial expressions. Always smiling regardless of the way people see her a day the facial hair. She spoke about her childhood the challenges which she faced and some which she is still facing.  But vision on life was absolutely amazing. That vibrate energy in her voice captured the entire place and could be felt by everyone present during the 45 minutes interview. Her attitude towards life is fill  with hope and optimism. She never saw her physical condition as a limitation but rather as a blessing.
She has learnt to use it to her advantage by touching life positively and even planned on having her own TV or Radio Show someday. She see herself as one special human being all the facial hair which she has as a woman which distinguishes her from every other woman was a special gift from God and she in turns to use that in charging lives.
This got me pondering on my life how we always turn to use our immediate situation or physical conditions in constructing our future. Our destinies are in our hands what we decide to make of it sorely depends on us. As the presenters of Moments will always say 'once you can think it you can do it'. She thought about being interviewed on a TV show someday and she made it now she's thinking about having her own TV show who says she can't have that.

Power Struggle : AU and ICC

South Africa defy it's own constitutional law when it allowed the Sudanise president Omar Al-Bashir to leave the country while the was a court pending his arrest on Monday the 15th of May. This has spark so much controversies within and country out of the country on the authenticity of the role of law in South Africa and also whether South Africa minimise it's own polices and laws of the International Criminal Court the ICC.  President Omar Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for crime against humanity in Sudan in 2009. President Omar Al-Bashir came to South Africa on the 6th of June to attend the Africa Union Submit hosted by South Africa and according to reports from the South African Government he was granted immunity just like all the other heads of state who were present during the submit.

But on Saturday the 13th the Johannesburg High Court place a court order for his arrest launched by the ICC pending judgement on Monday the 15th but as fun as it might sound President Omar Al-Bashir left the country on Monday before the j'burg High Court could give it final judgement which was an order for his arrest.

The key point here are president Al-Bashir defy South Africa law by leaving even though he knew he was not supposed to till after the Johannesburg passed it's judgement.  Some people argue that president Al-Bashir left South Africa on grands of the immunity  which he got just like all the other presidents who were present during the submit. The most controversial head of state in Africa President Robert Mugabe said in an interview that President Zuma promised President Al that he will not be arrested through out his stay in South Africa.

This therefore means that President Zuma knew all the complexities which will surround president Al-Bashir's stay and decided still pursuit it regardless of its out come by defying the laws of his own country and that of the international Criminal Court.
Some say Africa its high time Africa learn to stand on his own not by some international institutions controlled by post colonial governments who impose their laws on African states. All we have left to do is to see how the story unfolds firstly by South Africa given reasons why it allowed president Al to the country regardless of a court order pending his arrest and what the ICC is going to say or do towards South Africa.

FIFA WOMEN'S WORLD CUP 2015: The Usual Match Bonus Crisis

It is no news for any Cameroonian sporting delegation to be denied of their deserving benefits by either the government or some top ranking government official. Its like a tradition and even in the just ended 2014 world cup in Brazil same thing happened with the lions and today it is the turn of their female compatriot. All I want to know is who allocate theses bonus and who is appointed to hand them to those players. I believe the ministry of sport and FECAFOOT has workers who earn monthly salaries and if that salary is tempted with even just once a month it causes turbulence within the ministry so why can’t they not act responsibly when comes to people who go to represent out nation. It’s not like the money is been taking off their salary. A report by "Le Jour" News paper back home reported that the players have been on strike since the 26^th of May and have promised to boycott their first match against Ecuador if their bonus is not being paid. But on Thursdays they called of their strike actions as they have been to receive 15million frs CFA which is half of what they were asking before their match on Monday.

It is also important to note that the kick off of the female football world cup will take place on Saturday the 6^th In Canada and also for this years’ tournament the has been an increase in the number of teams from 16 to 24 and consequently an increase in the number of matches from 24 to 32 matches.

Even though have high hopes with my national team be it the male or female squad, I am still patiently waiting for that special day when we will bring the trophy back home. Type of dreams Cameroonians always have. 

Teenage Pregnancy: Mother's Excuse On Fighting Poverty

Last week Saturday we had a discussion in one of our lectures about teenage pregnancy on some of the reasons behind it and we try to use South Africa as our case study or point of interest. What got my attention was what one of my colleagues said as one of the primary causes of teenage pregnancy in South Africa today POVERTY. It so surprising and humiliating that a parent will send their teenage daughter to go get pregnant so they can receive R400 monthly grant from the government. I do believe the South African Government located social grants on teenage girls who get pregnant because firstly as a government they need to provide for the social well being of its citizens and also gives the girl a second chance in life.

Approximately 30% of teenagers in South Africa have ever been pregnant a huge majority of it is unplanned and the ages lies between 13-19 years. Yes we all know the main reason for teenage pregnancy is poverty and lack of education. In the Eastern Cape alone 65 percent of girls between the ages from 13 to 19 already have about three kids of their own and are not even married.  “The whole family! The mother is giving birth, the daughters also some of the daughters even infected HIV, kids having kids. They are some families with 8 kids and they surly rely on the government grant of R400 per month for each child for the well being of the family. Some women carry the notion of more children more grants and so even force their girl-child to go get pregnant so they could get more money from the government. This is so disgusting and to extend can be seen as child abuse.  

I do not think those mothers know the consequences of their actions because they turned to base their mind surly on the grants which they are going to get for each child. Some people have argued that the grants which those teenage mothers get from the government is what is encourages them to get pregnant at a very tender age of 13.  But the government has denied that its policy has led to unwanted pregnancies. A study in 2006 by the country’s Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) determined that since the child support grant was enacted in 1998, only 20 percent of teen mothers received the payment, since most could not produce identity documents to quality for the money. But those studies were made in 2006 and 9 solid years has passed might be it needs to be revised. I do believe the only question which we got on our minds now is "should the Government stop financial grant for teenage mothers"? I will leave that you readers to answer that. 

FIFA: Dirty Laundry All Out

As many would say, the long awaited time has finally come. FIFA right now can be characterized as the headquarters of bribery and corruption. Last week, 14 top FIFA executive were charged with bribery and corruption and match fixing. Among those men arrested was Chuck Blazer, an American who was general secretary of the confederation of soccer-playing nations in North and Central America and the Caribbean — CONCACAF, which includes the U.S. — and a powerful member of FIFA's ruling executive committee and  Jack Warner, then president of the U.S. region's confederation. Chuck Blazer is accused of taking bribe from the South African government in exchange for his vote towards South Africa hosting of the 2010 world.

The irony about all this is that the south Africa government agrees that it payed 10 million dollars to FIFA in 2004 but it was the African Diaspora and they is a latter by the south African minster to back of that but Chuck Blazer says he received a bribe from the south African Government during that period. And it becomes more interesting when Jack Warner who was in-charged of the African Diaspora at the time says he did not receive any bribe from the South African government. This just makes us to wonder who is lying in this whole scandal and has kept SAFA 2010 committee members on their toes.


Jack warner in a press conference yesterday said 'i have stayed quiet for so long and I won’t do that anymore’. Jack Warner he has being in the FIFA executive for more than 30 years and he has promised to exposed everything in the next coming week and in 2011 he even asked Sepp Blatter to step down and not to run as president. I just never knew football could have so much drama even in boardrooms and offices.

FIFA; Its Just Another Allegation

Once again the international football governing body FIFA is on the spotlight not for anything positive but as usual for bribery and corruption regarding south Africa winning the bid to host the 2010 world Cup. Last week the FIFA authorities at the US district court arrested 14 officials of bribery and corruption and accused south Africa of playing 10 million US dollar to in return for votes to host the 2010 world Cup in South Africa. president of the (SAFA) South African Football Authority responded to this allegations by saying “I haven’t paid a bribe or taken a bribe from anybody in my life. We don’t know who is mentioned there [in the US indictment]. And I don’t want to assume that I am mentioned.” He later when on to say “How could we have paid a bribe for votes four years after we had won the bid?”. According to Danny Jordan SAFA president' the money which according to them is seen or considered as bribery was paid in 2008 and was meant to the development of African Diaspora. But as we all know 'THE IS NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE'.

It is also good to mention that this organization which is so marked by bribery and corruption in recent years just got it president re-elected for the 5th time as president in the person of Mr. Sepp Blatter. Lets say football is not only played in the pitch even in behind closed rooms in boardroom offices soccer is being played.

Africa amplifies him his club adores him. It is very true that legends are not born but they are made. These three very great football legends used every little opportunity which they made in making greatness out of it. They made their fans smile shout out for glory but also made their opponent at every cry, hate them. The legacy which they have left with their clubs will forever remain in the history of football. They are not putting an end to their football career but rather they want to shine their light in all part of the world.   

Gender Based Violence: women not to be targeted but educated

Gender based violence keeps growing to an alarming rate in the world as days goes by. Initially gender b ased violence was mostly practised in homes and other social institutions within a community or country.  Patriarchal norms were what governs any home or society but nowadays international institutions mostly especially tarostist groups like Boko harm and Al-Shabab are being created to fight against the education of the girl child. Their motor is violence and they target small communities where the population is comprised mostly of women. Most of those women are being kidnapped, raped and even killed just to pass a crossed their message of "NO TO FEMALE EDUCATION". On the 15th of April 2014 at a small community in Chibok in Borno state, Nigeria 276 female students were abducted by Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram.  The main reason why those girls were kidnapped is because they're female and they decided to enrich themselves with wisdom and knowledge by going to school.  Their ages were between 14 to 15 years old. We're in the 21st century education is a priority to every single person regardless of your gender. The vulnerability of the female gender has always lead to untold violence against women.  And as if that wasn't enough in Kenya another Islamic group called Al-Shabab went into  Garissa university college killed and assaulted more than 147 students and warned of many more attacks. And one of the reasons for this attack was also linked to disapproval for female education.

I really do not get it. Why are women always been targeted or seen as elements of violence? The world is still trying to stop demotic violence now we're talking about global violence against women.  Last month 214 girls were rescued from the hands of Boko Haram and all were reported pregnant according to UNFPA and this excludes the 276 who were kidnapped from the secondary school in Chibok.
Early this year a 14 year old girl was caught at the airport in Cape Town South Africa travelling to go join an Islamic militant group.

When we talk of equality and respect for human rights what do we mean? I know I am just a single person and i got just one voice but it's all about making that one voice be heard by millions and for the world to understand that no sustainable development could ever be achieved by a single gender. I rest my case.

conjoined twins: stretch a helping hand to them

A family in Cameroon is asking for assistance from well wishes to transfer their conjoined twins to the United States for surgery. Conjoined twin are very rare in the world and their life expectancy is usually very low are seen as demons in some rural areas in  Cameroon and are mostly left to die or killed by villagers in the community where they're born.

As humans we all have the right to life regardless of how we are or were born. We never made yourselves to come out the way we are. We got human rights associations all over the world and Cameroon is no exception and as an exceptional case of conjoined twin the government of cameroon and more especially the health department of country have to take this matter into their hands by providing medical and financial assistance to the family because I do believe if the family is reaching out to the public it is because the Cameroon government haven't done enough.  

Even though the family is asking for financial assistance from members of the public as corrupt as I know Cameroon is I honestly do wonder if the money which will raised will even reach its destination.  Conjoined twins is just one of those cases which are considered as taboo in some rural areas in Cameroon.

educated but still an illiterate

I do not remember seeing daddy in at home today so who else is watching this boring News channels? This is a 28 years graduate asking me that. I can't say I was not disappointed or shocked by her question. She is just one of many who went to school just to have a certificate and a job not to enrich themselves with wisdom and common sense. I never knew getting to know about what's happening in the world in one which we live in as become a such a big deal or something for the old.

I know thereading culture is not greatly practised by us black people like reading news papers and novels but I thought television since it is a very captivating kind of media will encourage young people more especially black people to watch educative programs and get to know more about the world.
I was not surprised when she told me her favourite channel is Africa Magic. .'lmao' and can not remember the day she ever took the remote and turned in to a news channel. I asked her where does she normally get her news and other information from and she had this very big smile on her face while saying it..."from people like you who watch the news and even from the streets".
This guy also told me watching news channels make him feel old and whenever he sees me watching it he feels like I am jumping the youthful stage in my life. I wonder where people get such ideas and mentality from.

 Sometimes we think illiterate people are just the ones who did not see the see the four walls of a classroom but even some educated people can still be considered as illiterate. Illiteracy is when you have no background knowledge about something. You can be a computer illiterate. We did not go to school just to know about our field but also to have a general knowledge about life and the world in which we live in. The media is not just there for entertainment but also to inform and educate. Be smart and watch wisely.

Happy international mother's day

Four years ago I left my home country Cameroon to south Africa to further my educa tion. I was sent on this life time adventure by three phenomenal women. Emma Nayongo Effange my mother Pauline Eposi Watany my grandmother and Jane Effange my aunty who is off blessed memory. I was young and very naive had no family over there all I had and knew where the principles of living a virtuous life implanted in me by them. All they wanted was for to have the best in life first by getting enrolled into a university and secondly having a great future without any limitations.

 I know as children especially as young as we always think we are, our mothers responsibilities is indisputable as we mark the annual the international mother's day today the 10th of may. I have tried to do a just a little flash back on some of those qualities which I see as special and unique to all mothers.

Every human being even though some are born premature stays in the mothers womb..For 9 months meaning she gave u shelter and protection you even before you the light of day for 9 months and immediately you came into this world her first priority was to give you the best life could offer with her own means. She made sure you were protected from any harm humanly or naturally. Some even gave up their dreams just because they want to provide the best for their family.  Sometimes I get to wonder how single mothers manage to do all alone and a good example is my mother and grandmother both single mothers but they did all they could in providing for their children and I do believe all we could give back to them is honour and appreciation because we can never pay them back for all what they have done for us

If the international community could come together and set a day for us to celebrate and appreciate them is not just because they are female but because they are pure necessity and irreplaceable

Gender based in SA: Have south African men become husbands or murderers?

Jayde Panayiotou is the latest case of gender violence in South Africa. The Port Elizabeth based teacher was kidnapped, robbed an d killed  by her husbandjust outside her home on Tuesday April 21st.  This just brings to light the number of women who are being violated on a daily base by their husbands or partners in the country. In 2013 according to a study published in August by professor Rachel Jewkes of the South Africa medical Research Council a woman is killed by an intimate partner every eight hours in South Africa and only about 20 per cent of the killers are identified.
In that same year a man was accused of chopping up and beheading his wife with a machete; police arrested a 29-year-old accused of raping a 2-year-old toddler fighting for her life in the hospital; and police are investigating the rape of a 100-year-old great-great grandmother. Police still are hunting for two of 15 men accused of gang raping a 23-year-old woman. Her ordeal lasted hours.

Oscar pistorius even though he was set free on grounds of self defence killed his girlfriend on valentine's day eve. Still in that same year the British Indian businessman was accused of arranging the murder of his wife on their honeymoon trip to south Africa. In polokwane a limpopo businessman was accused of staging a burglary after allegedly shooting dead his wife. The list can go on and on and on.

Have asked myself more than a thusand times.."why so much voilence against women"? Just as any othrr problem in south african apartheid is seen as the root cause of gender voilence in South Africa. Apartheid had a very huge negative effects on South African who use or see voilence as the best way in solving issues and expressing their feelings especially frustration and anger. Unemployment is also seen as primary caused for gender based voilence in SA considering the fact that about 24.9% of SA are women are  unemployment and 15-24% are illiterate who relay on their partners for financial supports. The partrichy nature of most of our African society view violence against women as a way of portraying their power authority and control as THE man in the house or relationship.

According to Gender Links' research, 77% percent of women in Limpopo province, 51% of women in Gauteng, 45% of women in the Western Cape and 36% of women in KwaZulu-Natal have experienced some form of violence (emotional, economic, physical or sexual) in their lifetime, both within and outside intimate relationships.

Although in South Africa 16 days of activism is being set aside to educate people about violence against women and it is never enough when rapist and those carry out such acts can be seen parading the streets freely while the victims and their families live in pain and lost. Men need to understand that women are not tools use to express their frustration powder and authority but humans who have equal rights like them and no sustainable development can ever be attained in a country without the input support and protection of women

a screen diva...happy birthday Genevieve

Woman envy her men adore her she has capture the heart of millions of people all over the world through her indisputable performance on screen through out her acting career.  I see her as a screen diva, an epitome of greatness in African cinema and i am very sure the late Maya Angelo will describe her as a 'Phenomenal Woman'.

Genevieve nnaji is a Nigerian actor born on the 3th of may 1979 in mbaise, Imo state in Nigeria. She grow up in Lagos where she attended the Methodist Girls College in Yaba Lagos and later  went to the university of Lagos.
Her career in the movie industry started at the age of 8 where she featured in the television soap opera 'Ripples'. At the age of 19 she was introduced into the then called Nigerian Movie Industry now called 'Nollywood' where she was given a role in the movie 'most wanted'. From there on it should be noted that it has been from one level of glory for her to the next for the talented actor.
She has featured in over 80 Nollywood movies considered to be one of the highest paid actors in Nollywood and even Oprah Winfrey could not be held back from screen's diva success by referring to her as the Julia Roberts of Africa.
She has received several awards and recognition through out Africa. In 2001 she won the Best Actress of the Year Award at the City People Award and the Best Actress in a leading Role in 2005 in the African Movie Academy Awards.

I have tried to understand why is Genevieve nnaji is so loved,adored admired by many. Most many girls in africa aspire to be like her men desire. I have watched almost all her movies needless to say I am one of her biggest fans. What makes her different from other Nollywood actors is not just her beauty but her display of professionalism.  She captures every character and makes it so real so us. This can be seen in some of her movies like 'formidable force, Sharon stone in Abuja and keeping faith just to name a few. She never gone nude just to play a role as a prostitute like what we seen now on Nollywood she respects not just her profession but herself and will always come out as the best. Happy birthday screen diva and as you will always 'stay focus to your dream hard work pays'.

professionalism, determination and hard work lead to Chelsea's premier league success.

Chelsea captured it's forth premier league title with three more matches to spare after beating crystal palace yesterday Sunday at Stamford Bridge by 1-0. It's soccer my friend..haters will always gonna hate but Mourinho and his boys deserved the title and they own it.
Where I come from (Cameroon) my people will say 'make we leave that bad belley' Chelsea deserve the league title this season.  They started their campaign with a four straight win and gave their rival man city 13 points cab with still 3 matches to go before the end of the season.

The blues efficiency focus and professionalism can be seen through it defence by conceiving just 27 goals  even though some critic like man city, crystal palace and arsenal  fans consider it as a  boring game the fact is...They just captured their forth premier league title after winning their first 60 years ago.

 Lead by their brilliant coach Jose Mourinho who is also know as the 'special one' not just in Stamford Bridge but in the football.  He has won 3 clubs titles with the club and his eight title in 12 years with porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.  His success comes from team work harf work at the club level unconditional support from players like John Terry and Didier Drogba who can also be considered as legends in the club without any doubt .
Apart from Chelsea players and manger the billionaire Roman Abramovich who is currently the owner of the club since 2003 can finally seat back and say 'it was a good deal after all' with his four  premier league titles to his name.

post xenophobic attacks

Last night I was talking with one of my friends from home (Cameroon) about the on going xenophobic attacks  in South Africa. She asked me a question which I could categorised as a very important question about the on going violence attack on foreigners here in SA and her question was..'will the attackers be punished and the victim compensated? I was silence for a some minutes because I haven't heard of any form of compensation from the SA Government.

But heard from media houses all over the country like Etv and SABC the government will help in repatriating those who want to go back to theirs countries and integrate those with valid papers back to their communities here in SA.
But I do believe damage to anyone's property whether your a foreigner or not wherr ever you find yourself is liable to  some form of compensation. I know the next question on people's minds will be...where those shops insured?

According to news24 the Nigerian federal government could be asking south African to pay more than R5 million in compensation but it was not mentioned whether it's in  rands or neira. The president of the Nigerian union in SA (NUSA) Ike Anyene said the compensation matter would be raised at the next meeting of the SA-Nigeria Binational Commission. It is very important to note that both countries have a great deal of economic and political ties.

 Apart from nigerians other victims like Emmanuel sithole who was brutally killed by four locals who are believe to be his neighbours was transported to his home country Mozambique on Friday.  He was the bread winner in his family like many others shop owners whose shops were looted.
Yes many arrest have been made but what happens to the victims especially those who wish to continue staying here in South Africa. Can Zuma and his ministers  see deeply into that. I have said my own.

According to news24 the Nigerian federal government could be asking south African to pay more than R5 million in compensation but it was not mentioned whether it's in  rands or neira. I do not know must south Africans have decided to see only the bad side of foreigners especially the ones who sell drugs why can't they just for one second look at the positive side of foreigners in their country.  I really do not get especially when they say foreigners are taking away their jobs. Firstly about 80% of foreigners in this country believe in the spirit of entrepreneurship, the prefer creating their own shops and whom do they employ the south Africans who now burn down those jobs and at the end of the day will remind unemployed.

I hate to say but a huge number of south Africans are still so narrow minded. I do not understand the type of history or geography which is being taught at primary and secondary schools where a grade 5 pupil knows that the whole of the African continent is being comprised of only countries of the SADC even though he/she does not know the meaning of SADC.
